Toyota Overtakes GM to Become World’s Top Automaker

Toyota Overtakes GM to Become World’s Top Automaker

For the first time in 77 years General Motors can no longer claim to be the world’s largest automaker. That title now belongs to Toyota who outsold GM by over 600,000 vehicles during the 2008 fiscal year.

The two companies have traded the title from quarter to quarter for the past few years but 2008 marks the first time that Toyota has overtaken GM for an entire year.

There are a lot of explanations for what lead to Toyota’s success during 2008 but we like to think it’s due in large part to the quality Toyota parts and Toyota accessories that are used in every car they build.
