  • Step 3: Follow on Social Media – Some parts stores have profiles on Facebook and other social media sites.  Become a fan on these types of sites.  A lot of times they’ll offer special discounts.

Following these three steps will help you to find the best prices on genuine Toyota parts.  To find great Toyota OEM parts, visit Toyota Parts Center.  There, you’ll find lots of quality Toyota parts.

7 Winter Driving Tips To Keep You Safe

Winter DrivingWinter is one of the most dangerous times to drive.  That’s according to Forbes Magazine.

To help keep you safe, follow these winter driving safety tips.

  1. Drive the Speed Limit – Take it slow during the winter.  According to the NHTSA, speeding is a factor in 30 percent of all traffic accidents.
  2. Drive During the Day – It’s harder to see slick and icy patches at night.  The NHTSA says 49 percent of fatal crashes happen at night.
  3. Completely De-ice Your Car – Remove all snow and ice from your vehicle.  It will improve visibility and keep you safe.
  4. Repair Your Vehicle – Winter is not the time to put off major repairs.  You never know when you might get stranded on the side of the road.  Use quality Toyota Tundra parts or quality Toyota Camry parts if you own either of those vehicles.
  5. Pay Attention to the Road – You should never drive distracted.  During the winter, you should pay extra attention to this rule.  Don’t text while driving.  Keep the cell phone in your pocket.
  6. Keep Safe Distances – In the winter, try to keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.  For winter driving, AAA recommends an 8 to 10 second stopping distance.
  7. Watch the Weather – Check the weather on TV or online before you go out.  If it looks bad and it’s dark outside, postpone the trip until the weather conditions are better.  It’s not worth the risk.

Following these seven tips will help protect you during the winter.  Have you ever been in a car accident during the winter?  What happened?  Leave your comments below.

Understanding Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

Understanding Your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

Your vehicle identification number, also known as your VIN, is something you may have to dig up from time to time.  It’s a 17-digit unique serial number that identifies your vehicle.

You may need it if you’re buying car insurance or if you’re buying Toyota Tundra parts or other genuine Toyota parts.

How to Find Your VIN

Your VIN can be in one of several places.  Look for your VIN on:

  • The driver’s side of your dash
  • The inside of your driver’s side door

Additionally, you may want to check your vehicle registration as well as the vehicle title and registration.

What Does the VIN Mean?

Those 17-digits actually mean something.  This blog had a great diagram of a Toyota VIN.  You can see the VIN underlined in red below.

Here’s our translation of this VIN.

  • Digit #1 – This represents the country where the vehicle was manufactured.  1, 4 and 5 represent the United States.  2 is Canada.  3 is Mexico.  J is Japan.  K is Korea.  S is England.  W is Germany.
  • Digit #2 – This tells you who actually manufactured the vehicle.  T would be Toyota.  A would be Audi.  B would be BMW.  It goes on like this.
  • Digit #3 – This digit will tell you the type of vehicle.
  • Digits #4-9 – These give background information about the vehicle such as body type, transmission type, etc.
  • Digits #10-17 – These cover model years as well as the manufacturing plant location.

This is everything you need to know about your VIN.  Take a look at your VIN and unlock its secrets.

How To Protect Your Toyota In Long-Term Storage

How To Protect Your Toyota In Long-Term Storage

Do you have to put your Toyota in long-term storage?

If so, you’ll want to follow the tips outlined in this post.  Your Toyota will be ready to roll when you take it out of storage.

  • Step #1: Perform Routine Maintenance – Make sure to get the oil changed and replace any broken parts.  Try to use Toyota OEM parts.  These perform the best.  Also, check other fluids such as the coolant, brake fluid and transmission fluid.

  • Step #2: Fill Up the Gas Tank – Filling the gas tank in your Toyota helps to prevent condensation from forming in your gas tank.
  • Step #3: Wash and Polish – Thoroughly wash your car inside and out.  For extra protection, put a few mothballs in the interior and the trunk to protect against bugs and small critters.
  • Step #4: Plug the Tailpipe – This helps to prevent moisture from accumulating in your exhaust system.
  • Step #5: Remove the Battery – You’ll want to disconnect the battery and keep it hooked up to a charger.
  • Step #6: Raise the Vehicle – Place the vehicle on jack stands.  This helps take weight off the wheels and tires.
  • Step #7: Cover the Vehicle – Finally, you’ll want to place a cover on the vehicle to protect it from dust and dirt.

When you take your vehicle out of storage, be sure to test-drive it to see how it runs.  If you need to replace any parts, be sure to use quality parts.  It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for Corolla parts or Toyota Camry parts … you want to find good parts.
